Microphone Troubleshooting Guide
Quick steps to unblock and configure your microphone so you can practice with voice interviewers naturally.
To use voice features on our platform, your browser needs permission to access your microphone. If your microphone is blocked or isn't recording, follow these quick steps to get it set up.

When permission is denied, your browser blocks all audio input from this site. Follow the steps below for your specific browser.

- In the address bar, click the tune/settings icon (or the lock icon) to the left of the URL.
- Toggle the Microphone switch to Allow.
- Reload the page when prompted.
*On Mobile:* Go to Chrome Settings > Site settings > Microphone and ensure it is enabled.
Apple Safari (macOS & iOS)
- Go to Safari > Settings (or Preferences) in the top menu bar.

- Find this website in the list and set it to Allow.
*On iOS:* Go to Settings app > Safari > Microphone (under Settings for Websites) and check Allow.

2. Check system-level permissions
Sometimes, your operating system restricts browser access to your hardware.
Windows Settings
- Open the Start Menu and go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
- Make sure Microphone access is turned on.
- Scroll down and ensure Let desktop apps access your microphone (or browser app permissions) is toggled to On.
macOS Settings
- Open System Settings (or System Preferences) > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
- Find your browser (e.g., Google Chrome or Safari) in the list.
- Toggle the switch next to your browser to On (you may need to restart the browser for this to take effect).
---
3. Verify input device settings
If the browser has permissions but still cannot capture audio:
- Select the correct device: Make sure your headset or external mic is selected as the default input device in your system's sound settings.
- Test connection: Unplug your microphone or headset, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in.
- Close other apps: Ensure no other app (like Zoom, Teams, or Slack) is currently using the microphone in exclusive mode.
- Reload: Perform a hard refresh of the page (
Ctrl + F5on Windows /Cmd + Shift + Ron Mac) and try voice consent again.
---
4. Hardware and Connectivity
If the browser reports "No microphone available", it means the system does not detect any connected microphone hardware.
- Check Connections: Ensure your USB, 3.5mm, or Bluetooth microphone is securely plugged in or paired to your computer.
- Power Switch: Some headsets have a physical mute button or power switch on the wire or earcup—ensure it is turned on.
- System Detection: Go to your operating system's Sound Settings and verify that the microphone appears in the "Input Devices" list. If it does not appear, try a different USB port or reconnect Bluetooth.

FAQ
Does the platform store my voice? No, your voice is converted to text in real-time. Transcripts are used for scoring and analysis, but the raw audio files are not saved or stored on our servers.
What if I don't want to use voice? You can turn off "Respond with Voice" at any time to type your answers instead. All features work exactly the same in chat mode.
